Earth Day

Earth Day, celebrated each year on April 22nd, aims to raise awareness and promote actions for environmental protection and our planet’s health.

“Every one of us needs a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.” – EarthDay.org

History of Earth Day

Earth day.org founders created and organised the very first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Since then, Earth Day Network also known as EARTHDAY.ORG has been mobilising over 1 billion people annually on Earth Day, and every other day, to protect the planet.

The theme for Earth Day 2025 is OUR POWER, OUR PLANET, inviting everyone around the globe to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030.

Significance of Earth Day

  • Earth Day serves as a platform to educate the public about pressing environmental issues like climate change, pollution, and resource depletion.
  • It encourages individuals, communities, and governments to take concrete steps to protect the environment.
  • The event has grown into a global movement, with millions of people engaging in activities to celebrate and promote environmental protection.
  • Earth Day is a reminder that environmental protection is a collective responsibility.

Ways you can get involved in Earth Day

You can participate in Earth Day through activities like organised group events or simple lifestyle changes:

Get planting

Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to plant trees for the planet. Organisations like Ecologi and Trees for Life help individuals and businesses fight climate change by planting and protecting carbon-capturing trees.

Go plogging!

Plogging combines jogging with picking up rubbish, giving you exercise and helping clean your community. Gather friends, grab pickers, gloves, and bags, and stay fit while making a difference!

Focus on your footprint

Calculate your carbon footprint and aim to reduce it this Earth Day. For instance, bike or walk instead of drive.

Change to a renewable energy tariff

Switching to a green energy supplier can reduce your environmental impact by using 100% renewable energy sources.

Be energy smart

19 million UK homes have poor levels of energy efficiency according to the World Wildlife Fund . Addressing the energy efficiency of your home is a great way to reduce your energy usage.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Reduce consumption by buying fewer, higher-quality items. Consider purchasing second-hand goods. Swap, donate, or sell unused belongings online to support your community and reduce landfill waste.

Spread the word

Spread the word on social media and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

How TWC Pest Control can help you make an impact on Earth Day

At TWC Pest Control, we are celebrating this day because we believe that we can all do our bit to protect the planet’s health. So, we are supporting Earth Day by helping spread the word and highlighting solutions that will help you protect the environment and our planet’s health.

  • We supply water managers that control the water usage in your washrooms ensuring no water is wasted. We configure the interval to your exact requirements delivering significant cost savings whilst maintaining an essential water flow in the urinal.
  • Our range of LED light traps feature advanced UV LED technology and delivering lower running costs.
  • Significant amounts of our clients’ waste is processed in Energy Recovery Centres, where it is incinerated, generating energy that is fed back to the National Grid to power homes, lighting etc.
  • We offer Oxygen generated air fresheners which are much kinder on the environment than the industry standard Aerosols.
  • Our drivers are located all over our serviced areas, which reduces the amount of travel required to each location.
  • We are constantly evaluating our products and processes to see where we can reduce our impact on the environment and offer a more environmentally friendly service.
